Exciting news: You will have access to an innovative corn solution for 2023. Resicore® XL herbicide has received registration from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as well as key state approvals. The preplant, preemergence and postemergence product – which can be applied on corn up to 24 inches tall – will be available to buy this year.

No matter how you run your operation, Resicore XL has the flexibility to fit the way you farm and the power to help control your most difficult yield-robbing weeds. In addition, this solution comes with key enhancements that customers like you asked for.

“Resicore XL herbicide offers increased crop safety, greater tank-mix compatibility and the widest application window of any Corteva Agriscience corn herbicide — along with the proven, powerful weed control growers already know and love from Resicore herbicide,” says Kelly White, U.S. product manager, corn herbicides, Corteva Agriscience. “We’re continuously looking for innovative solutions that meet the needs of today’s growers, and Resicore XL herbicide does just that.”

Benefits of Resicore® XL Herbicide

Resicore XL delivers four key benefits:

  • Proven, powerful weed control. Resicore XL will give corn growers power over weeds with three proven modes of action to control more than 75 of the toughest broadleaves and grasses and with up to eight weeks of residual activity. The solution is powerful against even the most resistant weed varieties, including Palmer amaranth, waterhemp, marestail and giant ragweed.
  • A wider application window. Resicore XL provides the flexibility needed to fit a wide variety of weed control and agronomic programs. That’s because it has the widest application window of any corn herbicide in the Corteva Agriscience portfolio. Resicore XL can be applied on corn up to 24-inches tall. Farmers also can customize their application rates for added application flexibility.
  • Increased crop safety. Resicore XL is formulated for increased crop safety with an encapsulated acetochlor. The lesser crop response will help farmers achieve maximum yield potential.
  • Greater tank-mix compatibility. Resicore XL features greater tank-mix compatibility with micronutrients, including UAN and ammonium thiosulfate (ATS). In addition, the solution will allow farmers the opportunity to customize their weed management with compatible products such as atrazine, glyphosate and other corn herbicides.

Hear From a Retailer

According to third-party research, Resicore herbicide was the most widely used corn herbicide in 2019 and 2020.1 So why introduce Resicore XL? Retailers and corn farmers have said they love the powerful weed control Resicore provides, but they also asked for some improvements. Corteva listened to that feedback, keeping the three powerful modes of action while increasing the flexibility, crop safety and tank-mix compatibility.

Kyle Meece is the agronomy manager for United Prairie LLC in Tolono, Illinois. He was able to test Resicore XL in 2021 and says he was impressed.

“One of the biggest things that I wanted to look at was if the performance was consistent from what we’ve seen in the past [with Resicore], because we’ve had tremendous success with the original product, but another item that is a big agronomic practice for us in east-central Illinois is there’s an awful lot of ammonium thiosulfate — sulfur applications — made, that will be applied directly with our Resicore, and we were having mixability issues. One of the nice parts of this new product is [Corteva has] addressed that,” Meece explains.

In addition to the increased tank-mix compatibility, Meece says he also was happy to see the wider application window. Weather delays can be a struggle each season. He says it’s a relief to know Resicore XL can be applied preplant, preemergence or postemergence to accommodate those delays.

“Having that flexibility in place gives you that reassurance. ‘Okay. If I don't get this done and the crop comes up, I've got a plan B.’ And guess what? The plan B is not much different. The plan B is still Resicore XL,” says Meece. “And then it’s, ‘Well, Mother Nature didn't work with us again, I’ve got to go to plan C, look, I don't have to bring in new inventory, or an all-new product lineup, all new adjuvants. I’ve still got this option.’”

And when it comes to weed control, Meece says, Resicore XL is a powerful tool against the most difficult and resistant weeds his customers deal with. Waterhemp is chief among those weeds.

“We're seeing the same weed control [as with Resicore]. I mean that's first and foremost, that's what a grower wants to see when they’re making that investment in that product, that they can have some certainty that we're going to hold back some of our key troublesome weeds,” says Meece. “But then to be able to be at that next level, to have the confidence that we can mix this together with another key product in our lineup that we're using that's maximizing our yields and have no issues anymore, that right there is just going to take it over the top, which I'm looking forward to. And I know the rest of the team is as well.”
