Young corn field

Your customers will have a new tool to control weeds in their cornfields in 2023: Resicore® XL herbicide. The preplant, preemergence and postemergence solution has received registration from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and will be available for purchase this year.

“Resicore XL herbicide offers increased crop safety and the widest application window of any Corteva Agriscience corn herbicide — along with the proven, powerful weed control growers already know and love from Resicore herbicide,” says Kelly White, U.S. product manager, corn herbicides, Corteva Agriscience. “We’re continuously looking for innovative solutions that meet the needs of today’s growers, and Resicore XL herbicide does just that.”

Benefits of Resicore® XL Herbicide

Resicore XL will offer corn farmers four key benefits:

  • Proven, powerful weed control. Resicore XL will give corn growers power over weeds with three proven modes of action to control more than 75 of the toughest broadleaves and grasses with up to eight weeks of residual activity. The solution is powerful against even the most resistant weed varieties, including Palmer amaranth, waterhemp, marestail and giant ragweed.
  • A wider application window. Resicore XL herbicide provides the flexibility needed to fit a wide variety of weed control and agronomic programs. That’s because it has the widest application window of any corn herbicide in the Corteva Agriscience portfolio. Resicore XL herbicide can be applied on corn up to 24-inches tall. Farmers can also customize their application rates for added application flexibility.
  • Increased crop safety. Resicore XL is formulated for increased crop safety with an encapsulated acetochlor. The lesser crop response will help farmers achieve maximum yield potential.
  • Greater tank-mix compatibility. Resicore XL features greater tank-mix compatibility with micronutrients, including UAN and ammonium thiosulfate (ATS). In addition, the solution will allow farmers the opportunity to customize their weed management with compatible products like atrazine, glyphosate and other corn herbicides.

Hear From Your Peers

According to third-party research, Resicore herbicide was the most widely used corn herbicide in 2019 and 2020.1 So, why introduce Resicore XL? Retailers and corn farmers have said they love the powerful weed control Resicore provides, but they also asked for some improvements. Corteva listened to that feedback, keeping the three powerful modes of action while increasing the flexibility, crop safety and tank-mix compatibility.

Ed Corrigan and Kyle Meece are both retail agronomists working in Illinois. Corrigan is the senior technical agronomist for Brandt Consolidated Inc. in Springfield, and Meece is the agronomy manager for United Prairie LLC in Tolono. Both agronomists were able to test Resicore XL in 2021 and say they were impressed with the new product.

“The flexibility is really big because you can’t always predict what the weather does. If you’ve got the opportunity to put Resicore XL out early, which is what I like to do, it gives excellent season-long control. That’s really important,” Corrigan says. “It’s also great to be able to have the flexibility to come back over and put some of the product down early and then some of it at later stages. If weather keeps me from finishing the application, I can come back and clean things up and it still does a really nice job.”

“One of the biggest things that I wanted to look at was, not only was the performance consistent from what we’ve seen in the past [with Resicore], because we’ve had tremendous experience, but a big thing for us in east-central Illinois is there’s an awful lot of ammonium thiosulfate — sulfur applications — that go on with our Resicore, and we were having mixability issues. One of the nice parts of this new product is they have addressed that,” Meece explains.

Meece and Corrigan say the wider application window and greater tank-mix compatibility make Resicore XL a very convenient solution for their operations.

“When we can help that mixability, it increases our efficiency as a company and the operations team can get out there, get fields sprayed, get more acres in a day. That’s huge,” Meece says. “And this is something that the product is bringing along with the same consistent, if not, maybe even a little bit better, weed control than what we’ve seen.”

And when it comes to weed control, Meece and Corrigan say Resicore XL is a powerful tool against the most difficult, resistant weeds their customers deal with. Waterhemp is chief among those weeds.

“Whether I used Resicore XL preemergence with different blends or postemergence, it just knocked everything down. The blend of active ingredients in there, that is such a strong blend. It takes care of weeds but is easy on the corn plant,” Corrigan says.

Meece and Corrigan say they’re excited to be able to offer Resicore XL to their customers for the 2023 season.
