Brandon Groth isn’t new to the seed business, but he is among the newest members of Corteva Agriscience’s Seed Licensing team. As an Account Manager, Brandon engages directly with independent seed companies and key retail accounts throughout the Corn Belt, acting as the primary point of contact for business relationships.

Although he officially joined Corteva in January, Brandon brings 16 years of seed industry experience, including five years as an Area Sales Manager at Syngenta following 11 years at Beck’s Hybrids. His experience on the independent side of the industry has shaped his approach to work today.

Brandon reflects, “I was trained and learned the seed industry through the eyes of an independent seed company. It helped me learn the value of focusing on the long term, building trust and treating the customer how they want to be treated. That’s how independents operate—and that’s what I try to reflect in how I partner with them now at Corteva.”

Brandon’s role focuses on helping partners grow their businesses using Corteva’s proven germplasm and trait technologies. His deep understanding of the independent seed business allows him to step into his customers’ shoes and anticipate their challenges. “I do feel my own independent experience is invaluable in this role. It gives me an opportunity to see things from the eyes of the customer and find ways to strengthen the partnership beyond a bag of seed.”

Originally from central Illinois, Brandon grew up on a family row crop farm with his parents and grandparents. At the age of nine, he began a 4-H project which turned into managing his own annual small-scale hog operation, buying three bred gilts, purchasing feed, tracking expenses and selling the pigs — an early introduction to running a business. “I always said I was a hog farmer who happened to show hogs,” Brandon jokes.

After high school, he attended Illinois State University and took his first job with Eli Lilly. After a few years, Brandon was ready to return to his roots in agriculture. He took a friend’s recommendation and applied at Beck’s Hybrids. After one meeting with Sonny Beck, Brandon found himself back where he belonged: in agriculture.

Brandon lives just outside the Quad Cities, near Moline, IL. Outside of work, he stays busy traveling the U.S. with his three children, ages 7, 11 and 13, as well as coaching youth soccer, baseball and flag football. He’s also an avid outdoorsman who enjoys working on his own farm, hunting and taking an annual trip to Canada to fish off the grid.

When asked why he chose to join Corteva, Brandon points to two reasons: the company’s leading position in U.S. agriculture and the commitment to partner with independent seed companies.

“For over two decades, seed licensing had been dominated by one major player,” he said. “Corteva’s commitment to licensing shows that independent seed companies now have another strong partner to choose from — and I believe the independents will benefit from that competition. I’m excited to be part of a team that’s building those partnerships for the long haul.”

Brandon’s passion for agriculture and deep respect for independent companies make him a strong fit for his role. “At the end of the day, I have the best of both worlds. I work for the global leader in agriculture, Corteva, and I get to spend every day partnering with independent companies that know how to serve farmers better than anybody.” he said.
