Learn how this new solution for broadleaf weed control in noncrop areas outperforms legacy products like Tordon® 22K and Milestone® herbicides.

Knowing when to make the switch to new herbicide products can be difficult for land managers and ranchers throughout the western United States. While professionals know the importance of maintaining broadleaf weed control throughout roadsides, rights-of-way, rangeland and other noncrop sites, weed resistance, product labels and budget resources can hinder program efficacy from one year to the next.

That’s why Corteva Agriscience introduced HighNoon® herbicide to the western rangeland market. As a simple — and beneficial — replacement for roadside, rangeland and pasture weed control programs, HighNoon herbicide works in the same settings as most legacy products. As an added benefit, this new option for broadleaf weed control is a single product that delivers exceptional application flexibility across a wide range of sites. As a result, applicators can enhance residual control of several undesirable weed and woody species while improving productivity and annual resource management.

Here are five reasons many land managers and ranchers use HighNoon herbicide to accomplish their land-use goals throughout the western rangeland region:

  1. A New Active Ingredient: Rinskor® Active
HighNoon herbicide combines a new active ingredient, Rinskor® active, with the active ingredient in Milestone (aminopyralid). Rinskor active enhances vegetation control by attaching to a new binding site on plants. This new mode of action helps applicators lower use rates, broaden the spectrum of control and enhance environmental sustainability. The selectivity of HighNoon herbicide also helps industry professionals maintain desirable vegetation throughout a variety of noncrop use sites, making it a recommended replacement for some of the industry’s most trusted chemistries.
  2. Improvements Over Tordon 22K Herbicide
Tordon 22K herbicide from Corteva Agriscience offers serious control of noxious and invasive weeds. Comparatively, HighNoon® herbicide goes easier on desirable vegetation and offers the same level of control on many species. Tordon 22K herbicide is safe on grasses, but the grass safety profile for HighNoon herbicide is actually better — even at 4X the labeled rates. This helps applicators prevent off-target damage and the reestablishment of targeted species in areas where spot treatments may overlap.
  3. Improvements Over Milestone® Herbicide
Land managers and ranchers have relied on Milestone® herbicide from Corteva for years. The exciting news is: anything Milestone (aminopyralid) can do, HighNoon herbicide can do better. That’s because HighNoon herbicide combines aminopyralid with Rinskor active to provide a wider spectrum of control. The product also comes in gallon-sized containers, which reduces the amount of packaging and handling required for Milestone and the product’s quart-size containers.

Lastly, HighNoon herbicide offers more room for error in measuring and spraying at lower levels. Conversely, accurate measurements are essential with Milestone — particularly at levels of 5 to 7 oz. Otherwise, the risk of damaging desirable vegetation is much higher.
  4. Tank-mix Improvements Over Chaparral and Opensight® Herbicides
Land managers and ranchers commonly add Escort XP herbicide to tank-mixes containing Chaparral™ or Opensight® herbicide from Corteva. While effective, this approach locks applicators into the ratio of Escort XP they can use. This is not the case with HighNoon herbicide. That’s because HighNoon herbicide allows professionals to prescribe the correct rate of Escort XP (or Telar herbicide) required by different treatment sites.

How is this possible? HighNoon herbicide is a liquid formulation, which makes it easier to handle than the granular formulations of Chaparral and Opensight herbicides. As an added benefit, Rinskor active increases burndown and early activity more effectively than Chaparral or Opensight herbicide.

HighNoon herbicide also can be used at a rate of up to 40 fl. oz. per acre for effective and long-lasting control in noncrop areas. This can help improve efficiency and productivity for applicators. Being able to apply HighNoon herbicide on multiple use sites, including roadsides, rights-of-way, habitat areas, rangeland and hayfields, simplifies weed control wherever undesirable vegetation causes issues.
  5. Compatibility With Imazapic and Indaziflam for Annual Grasses
Using HighNoon herbicide along with imazapic or indaziflam allows applicators to control broadleaves and invasive grasses in a single pass. This supports the establishment and development of native grasses. HighNoon herbicide also adds the critical components of broadleaf control and complementary activity on invasive winter annual grasses. In addition, HighNoon herbicide delivers seed sterilization and reduced seed production when applied at the boot stage on winter annual grasses.

Application sites throughout the western rangeland region are riddled with unique challenges that will evolve over time. Fortunately, HighNoon herbicide is available to increase application flexibility, improve weed control, and promote the development of desirable vegetation.
