Product Selection, Timing Key to Postemergence Weed Control

Emerging corn plants

Earlier postemergence applications allow for more effective control of tough and resistant weed species. That’s why it’s important for your customers to scout corn fields regularly and keep a pulse on emergence timing and what types of weeds are present.

Waiting until more weeds surface in fields before spraying will allow some of the earlier-emerging weeds to get beyond a reasonable height for control.

To maximize efficacy, postemergence corn herbicides should be applied when:

  • Weeds are less than 6 inches tall, actively growing and not under stress.
  • The air temperature is 75 to 85 F.
  • There is no rain in the forecast for at least a few hours.

Product Selection Tips

Postemergence products should be part of a complete program approach to weed control and complement the preemergence herbicides already on the field.

For postemergence applications, consider using a layered residual with multiple modes of action. A postemergence application that includes Kyro herbicide can help your customers stay ahead of late-emerging grass and broadleaf weeds.

Kyro herbicide is a new premix solution with three effective modes of action for both postemergence and residual control on broadleaf and grass weeds. In addition to strong broad-spectrum weed control, Kyro herbicide offers farmers versatility to fit a wide variety of agronomic programs and can be applied on up to 24-inch-tall corn.

But no matter the tank mix your customers choose, applying those herbicides at the right time will help protect against yield-robbing weeds and reduce weed seedbank buildup.
